FALL BREAK!!

Remember that we are on Fall break until the 14th of October!  Students will return to school on Monday, October 15th.  We hope that everyone has a safe and fun break and we look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

Firefighting Fun!

On Wednesday we were able to have a visit from a very special firefighter!  He came into our class and talked to the students about his job while passing around all of his tools and letting the kids see and feel what each one is used for.

 He then got dressed up in his full gear and told the students what each piece of clothing is for and how it keeps him safe in a fire.  The students were able to see and hear what a firefighter would look like if they were ever caught in a fire.  This is SO important because we never want our kids to be afraid of firefighters when they are all dressed up.

 The students even got to touch all of his gear and see what each part of his clothing felt like.  They thought it was pretty cool that no matter how hard they tried they couldn't hurt the steal toed boots or his mask.  The kids also got to feel his helmet after learning that it is made of leather!

 After a great job during the lesson the students got a gift of hats and badges to wear and make them official Jr. Firefighters!  The kids had a GREAT time and many of them went home with new dreams of being a firefighter someday!

 Last but definitely not least we were able to pose for a class picture!  What a great looking bunch of Jr. Firefighters!

Community Helpers...a visit from Officer Caldwell!

We had a visit from Officer Caldwell from the Monroe Police Department today!  This week we have been learning all about different jobs.  The students were VERY excited to learn from her and learn all about her job and what it takes to become a police officer.

 Officer Caldwell told us about all of the different tools that she has to carry on her belt as well as in her car.  It was very interesting learning about all of the different things that she had to go to school for in order to become a police officer.

At the end of the day we all made our own police hats.  What a good lookin group of cadets!!

 We have also been turning several of our centers into jobs this week.  The "Housekeeping" center has been turned into an eye doctor's office.

 Dominick and Jose are doing a great job reading the eye chart with Dr. Jessica!

United Way

We are raising money for united way!  Please send in any extra change for students to put in our change jar.  We will be collecting money through Friday September 7th.  Students may also pay $1.00 to wear jeans this Friday!  Thanks for your help and support!

Our "Beary" Special Day!

We had a GREAT day today with all of our "beary" special visitors!  Each student was able to bring in a stuffed animal or other friend from home to spend the day with us.  Here are some pictures of the wonderful things we did with our friends!

Our Friends in Turkey!!

We were so excited to get to meet one of our students that is living in Turkey!  Lidya and her twin sister Lara will be coming to be a part of our class in September!  We got to skype with them on the computer today and talk to them for the first time!  We learned that they have a little dog at home and that they like to eat many foods that are the same AND different as the foods we eat here in the U.S.  We can't WAIT to meet them in person and hope to talk to them on the computer again soon!

Center Time Fun!

Our Little People!

Thanks to everyone who helped their child to create a special little person to send in during our "All About Me" week!  We have had a great time sharing them and getting to know each other!
